NDA 'removes' Vizag Mayor by adopting no-trust vote
After a high-voltage drama and camps by rival groups in Sri Lanka and Malaysia, the no-confidence motion served by the NDA against Visakhapatnam Mayor Golagani Hari Venkata Kumari was passed with majority support on Saturday.

Visakhapatnam: After a high-voltage drama and camps by rival groups in Sri Lanka and Malaysia, the no-confidence motion served by the NDA against Visakhapatnam Mayor Golagani Hari Venkata Kumari was passed with majority support on Saturday.
Unprecedented security bandobast with CCTV footage was made in the vicinity of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) complex with allegations on intimidation, blackmailing and allurements by the NDA and YSRCP to poach corporators by rival camps.
While the TDP organised a camp for its corporators in Kuala Lumpur, YSRCP leadership first kept it's group of corporators in Bengaluru and later flown them to Colombo.
After the meeting, the supporters and members of the alliance celebrated with bursting of crackers and distribution of sweets.
"We moved the no-confidence motion due to corruption by the Mayor who brought development in various wards to a standstill," TDP leader and Bheemili MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao, told Bizz Buzz.
The Mayor and others belonging to YSRCP, after return from Colombo, at the eleventh hour decided not to attend the special meeting.
Though the magic figure of 74 was missing short by one member following the 'missing' of TDP-backed corporator Bhupatiraju Sujata in Malaysia during a camp by the NDA, the alliance mastered the required strength due to support by YSRCP corporators Priyanka and Tippala Vamsi Reddy.
Priyanka, daughter of former Minister Muttamsetti Srinivas Rao, announced resignation from the membership on Thursday. Vamsi, is son of former Gajuwaka MLA Tippala Nagi Reddy.
NDA could mobilise the magic figure by securing suport of
63 corporators and 11 ex-officio members.
Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council and YSRCP district president Gudivada Amarnath said NDA committed a fraud on mandate given in municipal elections by indulging in intimidation and horse-trading.
TDP floor leader Peela Srinivasa Rao is being considered as the NDA's nominee for Mayorship. Jana Sena MLA from Visakha South Vamsi Krishna Yadav said the leadership of NDA constituents will finalize the candidates for Mayor as well as Deputy Mayors. NDA has already served another no-confidence motion against Sridhar and Satish, who were elected as Deputy Mayors by YSRCP around four years ago.
District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad, who is also the government GVMC Special Officer, attended the meeting.
As per their policy decision, CPI corporator AJ Stalin and CPI (M) corporator B. Ganga Rao abstained.
